EducationHello! My name is Kathryn. I graduated from Harvey Mudd in 2011 with my degree in Molecular Biology. Harvey Mudd took my 18-year-old, 4.3 GPA brain, shattered it into a million pieces, and commanded me to put it back together again. In short, the experience was traumatic, but worthwhile. Years later, I have indeed put my brain back together again, into something much more powerful than anything I could have wrought from the brain I was left with after high school. The brain that I've built is a powerful one.
ExperienceI am a professional private tutor, and I serve high school students who are passionate about their academic lives. You should request my tutelage not if you want to 'pass' or 'get an A', but if--and only if--you are genuinely interested in learning the material. I am a demanding tutor. In addition to our twice-weekly two-hour lessons, you will also commit to developing lesson plans for us and to attempting every homework problem before my arrival. I know what works, and this is it.
I am also an ACT expert. Like most people, I used to think that raw intelligence would get me a perfect score. This is not the case. I have had to train myself, as intelligent as I am, to master the specific skills that this test requires of a person.
You'll also enjoy knowing that I sit an actual ACT every year to research the ways in which this test is changing. My techniques are always up to date, and have produced the coveted perfect 36 (a 36 in every section, not just overall) that you should demand of the tutor you will bring into your home. Please request a screen shot of my scores.
I take great pride in my work. If you do, too, we will work quite well together.
(Notice that the above is written directly to the student. Parents, if you're reading this, please know that I only accept inquiries from students themselves.)
HobbiesI love to play volleyball, read, do yoga, raise baby kittens, jog, and do grant research for my favorite nonprofit.
